Susan Nestor
Susan Nestor was born in 1952 in Portsmouth, Ohio. A college education was a rarity for girls from a little steel town on the Ohio river. Scholarships were almost nonexistent and information was nearly impossible to find. In spite of having no money, no support, and a poor high school education, she moved to Columbus at the age of 17, found a job, and enrolled at the Ohio State University. In 1973, after juggling numerous jobs and school, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in English.
Susan met her husband while at Ohio State University where they married. She then attended Cleveland State University College of Law from 1974-1977 -- one of only half a dozen women. Since moving to Taos, New Mexico thirty years ago, she has used her blue collar work ethic, communication and legal skills to become a prominent business figure in New Mexico and Colorado. She and her husband own a contracting business, property management company, and horse ranch. They have raised four children.
When her youngest daughter expressed an interest in playing soccer in college, Susan first spoke with the club “college coordinators” and went to some seminars. These generic informational sessions clearly were not well suited to her proactive way of doing business. She had, after all, sent three older siblings to college and found scholarships via the internet. So she got busy on the computer, searching academic programs, searching scholarship options, investigating soccer programs, familiarizing herself with NCAA rules. Ultimately it paid off in a huge way. While her teammates were passively hoping to get noticed, Susan’s daughter had a list of top schools recruiting her with fantastic financial incentives. Since then, many friends have asked if Susan would do the same for them. One by one, she has found them that “perfect fit” for their college-bound athletes…. both academically and athletically.
